An unusual case of hirsutism, baldness and ovarian leiomyoma

A 60-year-old woman presented to the endocrine clinic with significant hirsutism and male-pattern baldness, progressive since the menopause 5 years earlier. She was otherwise fit and well. Testing revealed an elevated serum testosterone of 14.2 nmol/L. A 57-year-old man with a history of alcohol excess was admitted following a road traffic accident. He suffered multiple trauma with fractures to his left femur, tibia and fibula, his right pubic ramus and several ribs. In addition severe abdominal trauma necessitated nephrectomy and splenectomy.
